Pill that eradicates bad memories. Is this a pill you would swallow?

Brain activity
"And when memory failed and written records were falsified—when that happened, the claim of the Party to have improved the conditions of human life had got to be accepted, because there did not exist, and never again could exist, any standard against which it could be tested."- George Orwell, 1984.

I'm sure that you can identify with me when you go to retrieve an item and at the last minute, you forget what you originally wanted; Or the time you tried to remember someone's name..er thingy, whats his face? The times that you experience these bouts of memory loss, can invoke many feelings, such as a moderate frustration to extreme annoyance.  Although, those moments can be annoying, eventually our memories return to us once again....all is right with the world!

Our memories can play tricks on us, make us tongue tied, happy and sometimes, vulnerable.  There are many people that have had traumatic experiences in their lives, that even revisiting the memory can evoke a mixture of extremely painful feelings; These feelings are so traumatic that eradicating the memory would be more desirable than constantly reliving the nightmare.

A Dutch study observing 60 participants used a drug called 'Propranolol', to assess it's effectiveness in, reducing the participants traumatic experiences. Propranolol is referred to a  beta blocker and is usually used for treatment of hypertension. The study showed, that compared to the controlled group, who were given a placebo, those who had taken the beta blocker, showed a significant change in their responses to traumatic stimuli.

This drug is considered for use with patients suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).  The study, suggests that patients suffering with PTSD could benefit from taking this drug.

Would you pop a pill to get rid of those bad memories you have?  Arguably, without our memories, good or bad, who would we be? George Orwell's quote from his book " 1984", could suggest that without our memories we have no beginning, therefore, no power, no existence?
